Team 987 was founded in October of 2001 by Marc Rogers and Joe Barry, instructors at Cimarron-Memorial High School. At that time, the team had nine students and two coaches,  no experience building robots, and no significant funding to do so. But that didn't stop the newly-formed team, which in those early years was named "Ultimus Acumen", from learning and growing. Based on our successes, trail-and-error, and a bit of good luck we acquired support from sponsors and the school  to keep the program going, and in 2022, the team celebrated its 20th anniversary. As a  Chairman's Award winning team and an inductee into the FRC Hall of Fame, we spend a lot of time supporting and helping other teams break down their "barriers to success" through our workshops, mentor support, and leading by example. All that we accomplished in those first twenty years would not have been possible without the steadfast support of our coaches, mentors, and especially our Sponsors, all of whom have our sincere appreciation and thanks for their gracious contributions to our team.
